Don’t Miss The Miracle

In  the Bible (John 2) we read where Jesus turned the water into wine. While this was the first sign through which Jesus revealed His glory,  what He performed was done in front of many who appear to have missed the miracle He was doing.

There is no clear indication of *when* the water became wine. Did it happen when it was still in the jars? On the way to being served to the wedding party? When the master of the banquet took the first drink?

We don’t know exactly at what point the miracle happened.  All we know is that Jesus gave them instructions for handling the water. The servants took the water. Then the next thing we know is that the wedding host is calling it wine.

Somewhere along the line, the water became wine. But it was only the person who was out in the crowd that first identified the miracle.

That made me think.

How many times do we miss the miracles in front of us? Or even the miracle we’re a part of, facilitor in helping? The servants helped Jesus with His first miracle, but did they even realize it? How or why did they miss it?

You know, there are miracles touching us or happening around us but we’re somehow dulled or oblivious to them. How often do we miss what God is doing right in front of us?

It is so easy to get caught up in the intoxication of the norm that we fail to see the greatest and newness of the miracles God is gifting us.

This morning is a new day, and I cannot see the sun like I did yesterday. The clouds are dense and dark this morning. But, even so, I know there are miracles all around me, and I don’t want to miss them.

There is the miracle of a new day, a new opportunity to sing God’s glory. The sun is still shining and just because I cannot see it does not mean that no one else can see it, nor does it mean that its no longer shining. There are miracles of life all around me. There are countless miracles in my own life. But, I can so quickly become absorbed in the cares of life, the worries and uncertainties, the chase for one more paycheck, one more pleasure, one more shiny new toy that I don’t stop to witness and embrace the miracles of the moment.

Stop. Breathe. Look. Absorb. And, worship God for His faithfulness, His goodness, His greatness, His mercies. Like the servants who actively participated in the miracle of Jesus turning the water into wine, likewise pick up the simple jar of life you hold in your hand and participate in the miracle He is waiting to do through you. And then open the eyes of your heart and see the miracles God is doing in you and through you.

Thank you, Jesus, for including me in the miracles you are doing today.

——— John 2:1-11 ———
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so,and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom asideand said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. – John 2:1-11 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John2:1-11&version=NIV
