When I read the below definition on the potency of prayer, I am deeply convicted that I have not, because I ask not. (James 4:3) I also am reminded that perhaps in some cases I “ask amiss”.
God, may I draw closer to you, be more in tune to your desires for me, and always align my life with your purpose and calling. May I live every moment here on earth with my heart focused on your eternal love. May I always remember that eternity is the final destination for each of us, and that the choices I make today will have a rippling impact long after I have stepped into the corridors of heaven. May I pray without ceasing. May I persevere and hold on faith. May I rejoice and trust in God. And, when I can’t see the next step forward, May I hold tight to my heavenly Father’s hands knowing in full confidence that He will carry me. He will never fail me. He will never ever leave me.
The following is an excerpt from the wrings of E. M. Bounds, “Purpose In Prayer“. (1835 – 1913)
The Potency of Prayer
The potency of prayer hath subdued the strength of fire.
It hath bridled the rage of lions.
Hushed anarchy to rest.
Extinguished wars.
Appeased the elements.
Expelled demons.
Burst the chains of death.
Expanded the gates of heaven.
Assuaged diseases.
Repelled frauds.
Rescued cities from destruction.
Stayed the sun in its course.
And arrested the progress of the thunderbolt.
Prayer is an all efficient panoply.
A treasure undiminished.
A mine which is never exhausted.
A sky unobscured by clouds.
A heaven unruffled by the storm.
It is the root, the fountain, the mother of a thousand blessings.
