Who Am I?

You don’t know me. You really don’t know me.

I’m that forgettable face that slips into one of the services on a Sunday morning and worships with the rest of the congregation. Sometimes tears slide down my face, and sometimes I raise my hands and worship my Redeemer. Yet I’m just one of the many faces in the crowd.

But, who am I?

You don’t know me. You really don’t know me!

I come into work on Monday morning, and I work hard. (Well, sometimes I don’t work as hard as other times but when that happens I at least pretend that I’m working hard…). I go home in the evening. And then, I come to work again the next day, and the next day, and the next day… and so the week goes by.

And every now and then I get a paycheck. Oh yes. A paycheck. That’s nice. And then the cycle repeats. At least that’s what it seems like to most people.

But, you don’t know me. You really don’t know me!

So , who am I?

I am someone living life with a purpose, a calling, and a mission. Albeit a rather inconspicuous life, its living life with with a dedication to God’s service that may not be realized on this side of eternity. Nonetheless, it is the calling God has placed on my heart and that’s the thing that truly matters most.

You see, I am a Christ follower who from the depth of my heart is trying everyday to obey God and honor Him in the calling He has placed on my heart.

Every time I come to church I am getting refueled and recharged to go out into the spiritual battlefield, on a mission that God has embedded and engraved deeply in every throb of my heartbeat.

Then every Monday morning, Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning… yes, every morning that I walk into the building, scan my badge and go to my desk, I am not “just going to work”. I am going to the mission field. Every morning that I walk across my room and log into work, I am following a calling God has placed on my heart, not physically, but financially.

Oh this is not something that you would read about in a church bulletin or missionary newsletter; but, it is a critical component for missions and ministries out there. Without funds, how can God’s work advance? Without funds, how can Christ-followers go into all the world and share God’s great news of redemption? Without giving, how can local, hurting families and communities experience hope?

Likewise, I don’t know you. I don’t known your pain, concerns, sadness, loneliness. I don’t know the bounce in your step, the expectation and hope you’re embracing. I don’t known your passion, mission, or purpose in your life. I don’t know you.

But… what I do know, and what I hope you know, is that we’re all on a journey. And, if we can reach out to each other as we navigate this journey of life, we can help each other. We can build each other. We can make each person’s journey a greater and more meaningful one. And together we can leave a legacy of love, joy, hope, expectation. Together we can do far greater things.
